Infocomm Technology (ICT) will always be a key driver in the way we live, work, study, communicate, interact, learn and play in Singapore. In the education field, the evolution of technology has led to a clouding variety of terminologies such as: blended learning, e-learning, online learning, flexi- learning, mobile learning, and distance learning amongst several others. Learners are innately familiar accessing the Internet, online content and interact with their fellow classmates, lecturers and facilitators anytime and anywhere. However, the terminologies may be confusing and intimidating learners when they get to know that a course adopts blended learning or e-learning approach. E-learning approach uses appropriate use of ICT and Online learning uses connection to the Internet. E-learning can be used in a class-room or an online setting. On the other hand, blended-learning is a mix of e-learning practices with face-to-face interaction with online learning. In addition to these learning approaches, learners are also able to adopt e-learning through mobile devices. More specifically the mobile learning activities are designed to make use of learners’ immediate context, for example, offering information about cloud storage and security while visiting a data centre. These blended learning and e-learning approaches simply enhance learning whilst complementing the face-face lectures and laboratory sessions.
When learners are not in the school campus, they just simply stay connected some way to technology such as their mobile phone, tablet or iPad devices. By integrating technology in to the classrooms and laboratories, facilitators are adopting many facilitating strategies and providing learners with the blended learning tools for accessing online course content. Mobile compatible course content has a profound impact in our students’ learning and allowing them to read the course notes on the go.
Learners in TMC will be able to attend face to face lessons for 30 hours, read text on the e-campus, view videos, graphics, and programming illustrations online. The learners will be able to interact even using their mobile devices simply by using navigational buttons to conveniently navigate through the course content; attempt online multiple choice questions; some scenario-based multiple choice presentations too. Text entry boxes and graphic illustrations for few ICT modules are introduced to enhance learning experience about the information presented.
