When we first met Bryan, we had an inkling he was in the hairstyling business because you guessed it – he was his own hair model. We were intrigued by his motivation in picking up the books once again and indeed, the main driver here is simply passion.
Bryan started off as a hairstylist with a strong desire in understanding the power of the mind and the mystery between mind and behavior. This thirst for knowledge led him to pursue a deeper understanding in Psychology, by reading articles, attending talks and even approaching several schools to embark on an education in Psychology. He eventually found TMC Academy, enrolled into our Higher Diploma in Psychology with Counseling program. Last year, he graduated and has now progressed to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree with Honours in Psychology and Counseling, awarded by the University of Northampton, UK.
In this article, Bryan shares his passion for Psychology and how he copes with his part time studies.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]Q: What made you decide to take on part-time studies?
Bryan (B): Mainly because of my passion and interest in psychology. It’s also important to have the perspective that learning is a never-ending process, even when there are work responsibilities. Knowledge allows one to reach their fullest potential and only by learning continuously can one gain knowledge.
Q: What are the challenges you faced while juggling between work, studies, and even family, and how do you overcome them?
B: There are challenges in the path of learning and this includes maintaining consistent and good results between work and study. In order to overcome these challenges, the mind and body must be in a harmony. You must also be prepared to make sacrifices that are required in exchange for good results. Moral support from family and important people in my life, including friends, lecturers and classmates, also serves as intrinsic motivation and strength in helping me to overcome these challenges.
Q: What do you enjoy most about studying at TMC?
B: Through my studies, I learnt that it’s important to be empathic and to have great listening skills. This helps you to be a better worker, and a better person. I also learnt the important fundamentals of the subject and came across several interesting fields in Psychology and how it can be applied in daily life.
Q: Share your most interesting experience at TMC
B: During my studies here, I got to meet people from different background and culture. The transition in bonds from classmates to close friends is so valuable. Most importantly, I get to learn new knowledge from the lecturers along with my wonderful classmates.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]Watch our full interview with Bryan here:[/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://youtu.be/G9AlG8jkvS0″ align=”center”][vc_column_text]Inspired by Bryan’s passion for learning, especially in the field of Psychology?
