[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]As our Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong called for Singaporeans to adopt a healthy and active lifestyle in the latest National Day Rally, Singapore also played host to the XXI World Congress on Safety and Health at Work 2017. This 4-day congress is organised by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) alongside the International Social Security Association (ISSA) and International Labour Organization (ILO).[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
The World Congress on Safety and Health at Work offers a platform for the exchange of information and views to experts in occupational safety and health, representatives of enterprises and workers (the social partners), decision-makers in governments and public authorities, and anyone else active in the area of occupational safety and health.
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]This annual congress aims to provide a forum for the exchange of knowledge, practices and experience between participants with the aim of promoting safety and health at work, amongst other objectives. On the first day of this congress, Mr Ho Siong Hin, President of XXI World Congress on Safety and Health 2017 and current Commissioner for Workplace Safety and Health, graced the opening ceremony. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong was also invited as the guest-of-honour.
Singapore Health Promotion Board (HPB) was in-charge of the symposium titled ‘Bringing impactful health and safety programmes to workers at their door-steps’ on 6th September 2017. TMC Academy is honored to be invited by HPB as a speaker to share our experience in the segment ‘Cultivating a Healthy Working Environment – A Small, Medium Enterprise’s journey towards workers’ wellbeing’. At TMC Academy, we strongly believe that a healthy staff force drives a healthy company that will help us to achieve our goals in our vision, mission and company’s core value and culture. We also believe that as an employer, if we take care of our staff’s well-being, we will get positive and happy staff that will help us to sustain our growth in this highly competitive world.
Our continuous efforts in organizing activities and implementing new initiatives have brought us multiple recognition awards from HPB. Most recently, we have been nominated for the Singapore Health Award Excellence Award.
Moving forth, we plan to increase collaboration with health care providers and organise more workplace fitness programmes.
With the continuous support from HPB and colleagues, and with some experience of our health and safety committees, we will continue to play our part in shaping a healthy company and hopefully make a small difference in shaping a healthy nation.

Apart from the challenges faced in Singapore, we were also given the privilege to hear from the international speakers on their respective national perspectives about their knowledge, practices, experience and challenges in promoting safety and health at work. The Dialogue Session allowed participating delegates to ask the speakers questions and share their views. It was interesting and heartwarming to know that world leaders and employers are concerned about the safety and health of their people and are putting in effort to build a solid foundation in promoting such environment at work. The symposia unanimously concluded that a healthy worker is a safe worker who will also be a happy individual at the workplace and at home.
