What does it take to be an Industry-Ready Graduate?
As reported in TODAY Online, “Fresh graduates from TMC Academy drew highest starting pay of $2,650 per month”. This result came in from an inaugural Private Education Institution (PEI) Graduate Employment Survey 2015/16, conducted by the Committee for Private Education (CPE) for graduates from full-time bachelor’s level External Degree Programmes^ (EDPs) in Singapore. The survey, released on 15 Nov 2017, aims to “increase information transparency for prospective students considering enrolling in EDPs, and help them make informed decisions on their education choices”. ^EDP: An external degree is a degree offered by a university to students who have not been required to be physically present within the geographic territory of the institution.
With the government’s focus on providing education that does not solely focus on academics, but placing equal importance on preparing students for the workforce, many schools have been working on designing industry-relevant curriculum. What does TMC Academy have in place to produce industry-ready graduates that stand out from the rest?
Pioneer in the Set-up of Industry Advisory Boards
With our commitment to delivering high quality courses with industry relevant skills, four industry advisory boards were set up since December 2012. TMC was quick to realise the importance of preparing students to not only excel academically, but to develop skills that would prepare them for their careers. Successful members of the industry are invited to sit on the Board, whose invaluable experience contributes much to the TMC curriculum.

Access to Learning Opportunities in the Industry
At TMC Academy, we open doors to invaluable learning opportunities within the industry, from the industry practitioners. Our initiative to form the Student Chapters platform, as a partnership with industry associations like the Singapore Computer Society, Institute of Public Relations of Singapore, Singapore Psychological Society and Association of Bartenders and Sommeliers Singapore (ABSS Youth Wing), provides students access to industry events and visits, workshops, competitions and opportunities to work alongside people in the industry. Many of our students have expressed that through this exposure, they are more aware of the industry requirements, and help them better career choices. Here’s what some of our students have experienced:
Internship Programmes for Higher Employability
TMC Academy School of Business and School of Tourism, Hospitality and Culinary Arts have internship programmes in place for Higher Diploma students. This 6 months internship potentially increases the employability of our students as employers are increasingly looking for employees with work experience. Our strong links with companies, especially in the hotel industry has seen many of our students successfully placed.
With our industry-relevant curriculum, our students are able to complete the internship program, with some exceling in their positions and earning recommendation letters from their supervisors!
