 Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Accounting and Finance


This degree is designed as a tailor-made ‘top-up’ programme for holders of a relevant higher diploma or equivalent qualifications. The programme aims to be in-line with recent developments in accounting and the current regulatory trends.


 Programme Objectives


The aims of the BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance programme are:

• The study of accounting and finance with an emphasis on organisational context as well as theoretical content
• Preparation for a career in the accounting and finance sector
• Enhancement of skills and attitudes necessary to contribute to working effectively in business and management environments.

 Programme Design


The programme is designed to be delivered over a calendar year (i.e. 12 months) on a full-time mode, and over 18 months on a part-time mode. Each 30-credit course contains 60 hours of lectures. This design is intended to bridge the ‘gap’ from a Higher Diploma in Accounting & Finance (or equivalent qualification) to the final year of a degree.

 Programme Delivery


The programme will be delivered using a combination of teaching approaches including personal contact, audio, video and computer based methods. In addition, the University of Greenwich also has detailed learning resources materials that would be used by our staff to support the delivery of the programme. The students will also be given additional work to be carried outside the scheduled contact time.

Some of the learning resource materials provided for the students include unit details on the student intranet, references for further reading as appropriate from books, professional journals, publications, articles and websites. Workshops and tutorials will be organised on a regular basis in the classroom environment, and staff from TMC will be in frequent contact with the students.

Online learning resources in the form of BannerWEB provides individual student access to online database useful in research as well as access to home pages of courses enrolled. These pages includes course information including Course handbook, Assessments, a Reading list, Course material, past exam papers, contacts and "my grades" link, providing direct access to grades attained on assessments.

UOG also have an online forum which allows students at different centres to communicate with each other, with the intention of fostering an environment of self-help and bringing students together on the University of Greenwich programme.

 Entry Requirements


• TMC Higher Diploma in Accounting
• Polytechnic Diploma in Accounting related discipline**
• Other Higher Diploma/Advanced Diploma in Accounting related disciplines*

* Students with qualifications that are considered to be of an equivalent standard and appropriate for entry to the final year of the BA (Hons) in Accounting & Finance, will be considered on a case by case basis.

** Students with Business based Polytechnic Diplomas may enter the degree after completing a short (10 week) bridging programme.

Students graduating from the programme will be able to seek employment prospects in areas such as accounting and finance departments, financial services sector, public sector, non-profit making organisations and in public practice with firms of certified or chartered accountants.
