 Higher Diploma in Information Technology

 

AIMS

TMC's Higher Diploma in Information Technology (HDIT) provides students with a proven pathway towards obtaining a degree. TMC's Higher Diploma is recognised as being equivalent to a British Foundation Degree allowing graduates direct final year entry to a number of UK and Australian degrees. The programme develops students who are well-versed in the critical disciplines required in the field of computing and Information Technology (IT).

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

The Higher Diploma consists of a total of 10 modules – 5 core, 4 specialised and 1 project.

CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL EXAMINATIONS(CIE)

DURATION & DELIVERY

Full Time : 12 to 18 Months (4 terms)

Part Time : 18 to 24 Months (6 terms)

The Higher Diploma is modular and delivered on a semester basis. Students take 2 or 3 modules per semester, with each semester covering a period of 10 weeks. Classes are delivered on a lecture/tutorial basis.

Full-time students will have a 15 class contact hours per week (7.5 lectures and 7.5 tutorials/seminars or lab).

Part-time students will have between 6 to 9 hours per week. Students attending evening classes will have 2 evenings of lectures per week, with a bi-weekly tutorial/seminar or lab session scheduled on another evening.

Each module is assessed by either coursework or coursework and examination. Regardless of which specialization chosen a student will take 6 modules assessed by coursework only and 4 that have a mix of both coursework and examination. All modules contribute equally to the overall assessment.

The Higher Diploma may be awarded at PASS, CREDIT, DISTINCTION and HIGH DISTINCTION levels according to the following criteria, based upon the overall average for all Modules at the appropriate level.

Students must pass all modules at the first attempt to be eligible for DISTINCTION and HIGH DISTINCTION awards.

Entry Requirements

Any of the following:

  1. GCE ‘A’ level or equivalent High School / Year 12 qualifications
  2. TMC-CIE Diploma in Information Technology
  3. NCC International Diploma in Computer Studies
  4. Diploma from a recognised institution (or non-related diploma with related experiences)
  5. Students over 21 years of age with at least 2 years related working experience will be considered for mature student entry
  6. Where a student has not studied in an institution where English was the sole medium of instruction they may be required to produce proof of proficiency of English or attend the TMC / Hawthorn English language programme

Course Fees

All fees stated are in Singapore dollars. GST is included.
University Registration and Examination Fees are not included.

PROGRESSION

Upon successful completion of the TMC-CIE Higher Diploma in Information Technology, students can opt to pursue the following degrees:

* Require to complete TMC-CIE Diploma and Higher Diploma in IT.
